Confession Tuesday: Not an Atheist, Just Common Sense

Like I have mentioned before my Mom is extremely religious. I mean yeah I also believe in God and I go to church every Sunday, and pray every night but sometimes my mom takes it to the extreme and it it becomes very aggravating and annoying. For example she believes that everything that happens and that anything anybody does is throughout Gods will. One time I remember that I was nervous on a Math Final and the day I told her I got an A she said “see Ale I told you that God helped you and answered the questions for you,” I just looked at her and nodded, (even though I wanted to tell her that I got a good grade because I studied hard, and that next time I wouldn’t study and just pray and see if then I got a good grade).
The circumstance has been getting worse ever since we moved to Panama. She know goes to church 6 days a week. I don’t want it to seem like a bad thing or like I’m a atheist, because trust me  I believe in God and believe in his miracles and I follow the amendments but its not like I sit down and memorize all of the names of every saint and what they did.
Another problem is that my mom makes me pray for 1 hour with her every day and later she asks me why I’m up to 9:30 still doing my homework. The problem is that I cant approach my mother about this issue because she will get extremely mad and like she says she will be very disappointed in me so hopefully I’ll find a way so wish me luck.

My Dog Days

I think I finally understand my parents a bit better. Ever since I was a little kid I always wanted a puppy, I was always jealous of all my friends who had dogs, and how people called them Mans best friend. I never understood why my parents wouldn’t allow me to have a dog especially since my sister is crazy about dogs and has spent countless hours complaining and arguing with my parents about why we cant have a dog. Well I think I actually praise my parents for not buying us a dog.
It all started out with a suggestion a simple idea a maybe or a what if. My maid Ida asked my mother if we could please care for a puppy for three days until they found it a home. My sister pleaded to my mother to accept and she did. The only reason that she accepted was probably because my father was over 1000 miles away in China. My mom was very nervous about the dog she was going crazy, thinking if it would pee on the couch. The dogs name was Noah. The dogs name was Noah, my mom thought that this was some kind of good omen since in the bible Noah is a close follower of God that was the  only person that survived the great flood, so my mom thought that that was good, like I told you she was going crazy.
The day finally came that the dog came. My sister was going crazy saying things like “ohhhhh the puppy is sooo cute,” well that probably scared the hell out of the puppy because the first thing it did was to pee all over the floor. Before I go on let me tell you my mom is a clean freak, she makes me take like 5 showers a day and she makes me wash my hands every time I touch something, and on top of that she and my maid clean the house 2 times a day. So seeing a dirty puppy and pee all over the floor almost gave her a heart attack. So my mom ordered my sister and the maid to give the 3 week old puppy a bath, not the smartest thing to do. Well apparently the puppy was also afraid of water because it took a dump in my sisters room, but I guess the bath also had its advantage because we found three ticks on the puppy and my mom thought it had lime disease.
My sister the only one still not regretting the idea of having the puppy decided she would play with it well It turned out bad because the puppy pied 3 more times.  for the rest of the day the puppy did three things eat, sleep, and pee. Remember how I said dogs are mans best friend, well I think that Man is a dogs best friends because we do everything for them. Well finally it was time to sleep and I was glad too I got in my pajamas and as soon as I put my head on the pillow the dang dog starts crying and crying, I swear I wished that a flood would take him away. So basically this was my dog experience for three days.

A Hero's Flaw

If you only knew, you would say that I did it out of jealousy, say that I did it just so that I wouldn’t ever have to deal with him again, and some people say I did it to scare him. Believe me, I did it out of profound love for Katrina.
It all started out with Ichabod Crane courting Katrina. I abhorred him, That pig did not deserve such a wonderful presence. He obviously wanted to marry her for her looks and her riches. Ichabod Crane could never support the affable Katrina, he was a homeless teacher that could barley even sustain himself. So then I decided that I had to take action and end this nonsense once and for all.
Old Mr. Francis the  Sage of the town always talked about the headless horseman that roamed the town people believe that he was a Hessian soldier that haunted the town. So thats when my i got my brilliant idea. One of my many qualities is that I am excellent on a horse so I decided that I would dress up as the horseman and scare that wretched Ichabod Crane away. My Idea did much more that I had planed.
I had it all figured out. Ichabod was a reclusive so he lived in the outskirts of town. I followed Ichabod Crane on the way home it was very dark and all you could hear was the sound of the forest, After he gained some distance on me I started going after him, he heard me and in a tremulous tone said “who is there, I’m not afraid”. I could barley contain my laughter of pleasure. I kept on chasing him. After what seemed like a interminable chase something happened. I heard Ichabod Crane fall an the the last thing I heard was his haunting scream of hopelessness jumped of my horse and ran to were I last hear him the only thing I could see was a trail of red blood. I was scared I couldn’t believe I had killed Ichabod Crane I only intended to scare him away from Katrina “Ichabod are you there” I said in a scared tone, “I only wanted to scare you” I said but no answer the only thing you could hear were the insects chirping and the sound of the wind.
I rode home in utter silence. Once I got there I said that I had seen the Headless Horseman chase Ichabod Crane, chase him until his death. Luckily most people believed me because of my reputation. Ichabod Crane’s scream haunted me for years, his thick red blood  and his paralyzing scream, maybe it haunted me  because nobody knew that I had killed him.
eventually I proposed to Katrina in the woods were Ichabod Crane had died and she with tears in her eyes agreed even though she didn’t look so happy about it. A little while after we were married the. Who knew that on the day of our wedding Ichabod Crane was going to be the one to ruin my day. Right before we were pronounced husband and wife somebody entered the Chapel and screamed “ I bring news Ichabod Crane is not dead”. I felt the world slow down I had mixed emotions. I was relived that he hadn’t died yet somehow he seized my special day and all the attention diverted to him. When I turned around to see Katrina’s face she was calm and composed. I asked her why aren’t you startled about the new”
“ I have to tell you something, you see  Ichabod Crane entreated me to marry him after you did I said no, but he told me not to tell anybody his visit and so I didn’t.”
I couldn’t stand it, I was furious that she hadn’t told me. I came to the conclusion that maybe it would have been better if he had died on that cold night.

Not all Gingers are Feisty

Some people think that gingers have a short temper, and that they have no patience, but I can assure you that its just a stereotype. For you see, my brother Alex was not like this. He was a nice, easygoing type of person. My brother would rarely get mad; he was one of the only people that understood me.
The one thing that I can remember the most about him was his worn down Em-Jay baseball mitt. Ever since the first time I took him to see a Dodgers game, he talked about wanting  to play baseball just like his favorite player on the Dodgers, Pete Reiser. One day after a Dodgers game he asked me if I could buy him a glove so that he could start playing, he begged for it so much that after a while I reluctantly agreed. We went into the store near the stadium. The only thing I hoped for was that there would be a lefty glove for him. As soon as we reached the section where the baseball mitts where sold, he set his eyes on one of the few lefty gloves there where: a rare Em-Jay. He wouldn't take his eyes of of it. I asked how much it was selling for and the guy said  it was a whopping  10 bucks. I knew that once you promised Alex something you had to do it, word where like laws to him. After I bought him the glove I asked him what position he waned to play (I already new the answer), he wanted to play outfielder just like Pete Reiser.
As soon as we got home he rushed to his room and grabbed a green pen and started to  write on his glove. As soon as I found out about this I got mad at him and asked him what the hell he was doing. He told me that he was writing down his favorite poems so that he wouldn’t get bored when he was on the field. I then asked him was why in green ink, he told me it was Pete’s favorite color. Alex, like Pete, an exceptional outfielder.
Some people say that gingers are rude and mean but Alex wasn't like that. All of the teachers would say that he was a very nice kid. My brother was also very smart, he was the perfect child, that my parents would always brag about. The teachers would always say how smart he
                Guerrero2
was and it wasn’t bull, they actually meant it. I admired him even though he was my little brother.
Even though my brother had all these positive qualities he was very ill . Alex had leukemia; that was the only bad thing. I would always pray for his well- being but one day that wasn't enough and he died. My room was in the garage and on that day I smashed all the windows in the garage, I wanted to smash the windows in the station wagon as well but my hand was already bad enough. My parents wanted to take me to a physcoanalist for smashing all the windows I didn't really give a crap about what they thought I was just plain old mad, because I loved him so much
Even now, I cant fully close my hand and occasionally it hurts, but the pain from his death hurt more than anything. I will always That carefree smile he had on while he was playing baseball and that huge grin he had when I bought him the glove, and the poems he wrote on it. So in conclusion I ended up with a dead brother whom I loved, a baseball glove and a messed up hand.

House of Burgess Wordly Wise

Dear Isabel,
Today was the election for the House of Burgesses. I had never imagined that I would be chosen or even asked to represent the people of Virginia. Even though I do own land I thought that they would ask one of the Royalty or John Smith. Let me tell you how it all started:
I was walking to the town center, clad in my coat since the month of January is quite cold. As I approached, my friends called me into the church. Once there, they surprised me and told me that they had appointed me to the House. They said that this was a very spontaneous decision, but that I was the best candidate . At first I rebuffed  their offer but they said that it was imperative that I accept and not let this grand opportunity pass me by. I worried about the kids and who would look over the tobacco fields now that my friend John and I had been planting a great amount of crop. After a moment of silence I reluctantly accepted
We headed towards the second town hall to meet up with the other representatives. Once we arrived I was shocked. Standing right in front of me was George. He is my least favorite man in the colony; he is a guile man who’s disposition is brusque and arrogant. Fortunately, George
                                                                                         Guerrero 2
was the only man that I disliked in the House of Burgesses, actually I derived from my good friend Jack that he bought his way into his position, so I hope that the House doesn’t turn into a constant feud. However I am happy that John Smith was also elected, since he virtually saved us from dying in that harsh first winter with his motto: “he who does not work does not eat”.
Soon after the first meeting came into order, the first issue was discussed, which was how we should distribute the earnings from tobacco and how much should go back to the Motherland. Some Burgesses said that there should be 10% tax and that 40% of our earnings should go back to the England. George said that we shouldn’t give any of our earnings to the Motherland, can you believe him! Hopefully the other Burgesses  soon realized what an ungrateful pig he is.
I Hope that the colony  gets permission to bring over women soon so that I can see you again as well as all my nephews and nieces. Charles is really looking forward to be able to play with Patrick. Hopefully  I’ll be able to see you soon so that we can catch up on how everybody is doing back in England but so far Virginia is great.
Your loving brother,
Alexander

My Last Night

I’ve known it all along. Ever since he came to work for me he has always been grimacing at me. He would always observe me gingerly especially my eye. Every night I noticed that something or someone would come into my room. I would always surmise that it was something else- never him. Every morning I would notice that he would always be tired and dehydrated. Every morning the door was ajar so I derived that he was sneaking into my room. My neighbor corroborated that nightly my caretaker would enter my room and shine a thin ray of light into my eye. The man noticed this because he was  using binoculars to observe my movements. I endeavored that he  might try to steal my inventory of treasure. Every night I would always notice that something was peculiar but eventually I succumbed and just went to sleep.
Then one night I awoke because of the abrasion on my knee and I saw him he simulated a killer clad in a malicious aura. He had probably been over confident and done things in a cursory manner. I was electrified and all of a sudden I let out a shriek. I stayed still for ten minutes and then it turned to one hour the only audible noise was the ticking of the clock and the whooshing of the wind. I fought to keep my calmness told my self over and over again that it was just my imagination playing tricks on me but no matter what I said my heart didn't stop thumping. I derived  all the gruesome things that could happen and all the  ways he could kill me crossed my mind. I was starting to lose myself and thats when I heard him I heard him walking up to my bed as I laid then motionless to scared to move I saw his face and recognized all his dark intentions  his foot steps in beat with the thumping of my heart his feet touching the cold wood. Then I felt his cold hands on my skin and for the last time I saw the the way he looked at my eyes the world started to slow down seconds became hours saw how he flipped the bed and how I slowly turned and then the bed was on top of me. I felt like Atlas lifting the world I felt my life slowly being taken from me felt myself panting for breath one last time and then the last thought I had was why and the I succumbed.
